Aerial Issues on double din stereo
Hi All
I bought a disco 3 which was fitted with an aftermarket stereo. i tried to get the original working again but not the stereo or amp so gave up and put aftermarket one back in (costly so far.......)
Aftermarket one works fine but the radio cant pick up a signal using factory aerial. i noticed they had a cheap fm aerial so fitted that and reception is annoying as hisses.
I want to get the original one working as hopefully would be as good as standard stereo but i'm not sure of the components it could be or position of them.
someone mentioned Can Bus but is there a wiring diagram out there showing the aerial components or would anyone know what it could be.
we fitted an amplified booster before trying the fm aerial so guessing something towards the rear.
thanks
Dan

Is the blue wire connected on the large connector to the new head unit ?

sorry i cant remember the wire colour exactly but it is the fakra connector that goes back to the aerial.
I'm not sure if there are many parts to the aerial or just 1 part etc. i'm guessing something isn't working correctly.
Thanks

As Pete said, it's the blue wire in the original loom plug that carries + to the standard aerial booster. Also check the plugged aerial connections at the rear windows are solidly connected.

Most after market head units have an ISO style plug that connects to the standard LR radio plug. The cable from the Iso plug should have a blue wire that matches with pin 12 on the LR radio plug. It is this wire that requires +12 volts to power the three antenna's (in the rear windows) with out this you will not have a good radio reception. I know as this is what I had to do.

Thank you all you lovely people.
The larger of the plugs on the back of the stereo has a green wire that powers the aerial amp.
I have a high line harmon kardon system and was no blue wire but turned out to be the green wire directly next to the 12v power coming in.
Thought i'd let you know as the way the guys wired it back in they never used the original loom..
