Why do they think this is acceptable behaviour?
Travellers have decided that the playing fields at my kids school would make a suitable site. They know this is a school so why do they think it is acceptable to just pitch up and take over? Bath Council spent millions building a really nice site for them so why not use it?

Selfish ......... No respect for others and made worse by the mess and damage they leave behind, on the plus side it must come under primary land and eviction shouldn't be too difficult or take too long.

the very first word of your post is the reason why......
How they can do this and get away with it and other criminal behaviour, and they do get away it, is beyond me. Just 'moving on' after a couple of weeks leaving s t (literally) behind along with industrial waste as well as criminal damage to the property (be it a farmers field, a car-park, playing fields, whatever).
They can all seem to drive cars up to £100k and 'vans of £30-50k and hold the law and authorities in contempt.
They are complete

So the news report said it's a civil matter for the school to deal with. Looks like the school governors should get a civil action of 'Illegal trespass' issued against them.

They won't use it as in involves having to pay for it.
Normal line they spin is, "we just want somewhere to live and the local council should provide us some land" why, pay for it like everyone else has to.
There was a site around five miles from us that was wrecked by the travellers, council spent 1.5 million putting it right again, two months later it was wrecked again. Last I heard that the council were looking to dispose of the land.

Happened at my daughters secondary school - took over the playing feild, about 60 'vans turned up. Took about 3 weeks to get them off, and the mess they left behind was awful (it included a burnt out caravan). They were intimidating the kids on the way to and from school as well.
They didnt give a

Just do what someone I know did, he had travelers move on to the car park of his cafe, he simply blocked them in. They need to be stood up to.

I've learnt there are two things that they don't like, big dogs and fire, caravans sure do burn. They are bullies and you have to stand up to them. Just a shame the Police don't stand up to them DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

There was a "travellers " site near us that was completely trashed after the council spent thousands building it. The police were actually very upset when they moved on, because they didn't know where to go to recover stolen property!
