OEM brakes fitted as standard to the D3
Can anyone tell me what manufacturer Land Rover used when fitting brakes to the D3. Want to get mine
Done and wondered what to advise the mechanic to fit, also are there any better upgrades that I can consider fitting.
ThanksIf it moves and it shouldn't duct tape it, if it doesn't move and it should walk away and get a big hammer

Advanced Factors a site sponsor on here sell many different makes. The most popular way to go is with the V8 upgrade......better stopping power!
One day I'll get round to fitting my 3.0 D4 brakes to my D3 as they are awful as they are!
No idea on OEM though!

I've just uprated all mine to the V8 setup. This helps with the braking and is fairly cheap. I brought all my parts from Advaced factors. Who are site sponsors.

Worth noting that the V8 upgrade is not possible if you have the 17" rimsCurrently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE

Also with the v8 upgrade,
Either do all of them or front only, never do rear only

When I looked into this the general consensus seemed to be that the front oem discs were brembo and pads were ferodo ... to my wife's delight I currently have a huge box from Advanced factors sat on my dining table containing a front end V8 upgrade ... I went with the Borg & Beck one ... with the forum discount code its under £200 delivered http://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/kit200-di...5833-p.asp

Well I recommend the ebc green pads and these new coated discs, my dog will disagree,
Had them fitted this week and driving through town some ars le pulled out,
Hence why the dog hates them, she ended up ar5e over t1t on the floor D3 57 xs Stornaway grey

If you consider your standard D3 brakes awful, then there is something wrong witrh your brakes or you expect too much from them (IMHO)
I never had a problem with mine if I used OEM parts - I used EBC pads once and they were crap.
When I replaced the master cylinder and servo (Latter from the Super Charged version) they did improve in so far as less pressure was required. Master cylinder was changed because the rears in particular seemed to stay on like the non return was sticking somehow. But it was some 200k old.Mark.

I had the rears replaced as they were worn with genuine Land Rover ones and they are fine my beast shops really well. I will no doubt be changing them again soonIf it moves and it shouldn't duct tape it, if it doesn't move and it should walk away and get a big hammer

Just did the V8 front only upgrade and now the car actually stops but the dog hates the slide off the seat.

When I first got my D3, the brakes were truly woeful...
First thing to be upgraded, and made a massive differenceMy D3 Build Thread
They were never as good as what my bmw is now - but never had an issue - though as I said replacing the master cylinder and servo did improve them and get them to at least how I remember them when I first had it.
Now if you want bad brakes, you should have tried mu Triumph Spitfire before I completely replaced them! The peddle was like pressing a wall and as for stopping power - well, 3 weeks notice was required. Now the peddle is much nicer, though the brakes are still not brilliant - but are of the time! Discs front, drum rear, no servo. But then the kerb weight is less than 800kg.Mark.
