Wow, great forum, wasn't expecting so many replies, so thanks to everyone for your feedback/advice.
Safari Dave, would love a V8 and if petrol was as cheap in the U.K. as in the US would probably get one
I have seen a couple of references to Gearbox flush in people's adverts, forgive my ignorance but what does this entail and how much does it cost?

Go for auto, then you can have a V8 I will always wish that I had!
We have a manual and have had no trouble at all. As already stated it can be a bit sluggish at low revs, but I have had no trouble towing. Simon.

From experience of driving both. I own an auto.
You couldn't give me a manual.
Had to put a new TC and box in mine last month. 161k from originals, but a worn TC and a burst main shaft seal spelt the end of the box. Was on the cards to get changed so I didn't mind as it failed the night before it was going to get removed.
New TC and fresh oil in new box and it drives superbly.
