Having a bit of a wobble. UPDATE: A happy ending from page 5

I've owned my D4 for 7 months now. It was a 12,900 mile and 11 month old ex Land Rover Management car. I really like it.

But, about 3 months ago, the engine management light came on and it had to be recovered to the local dealer by LR Assist. It was in for a couple of days and they found a dead sensor under the engine, which was fixed and I was on my way.

Just under a couple of weeks ago, I had the engine management light come on again. Recovered to the same dealer, who said they were busy, but would get on to it as soon as possible. It was there for 11 days while I used one of LR's RRS's. I might have put nearly 1,100 miles on that, but they put 150 on mine carrying out "extended road tests" while they diagnosed a faulty pressure sensor on the common rail.

I picked it up, as they were closing and just after Stevie Wonder had washed it, on 13/6/17. I drove it around 50 miles before it went into limp mode and reduced power again. LR Assist sent out the AA, who diagnosed exactly the same fault code and arranged the recovery. It's been there all day now and not a word.

Unfortunately, it's not the supplying dealer. They don't have LR Assist loan cars, so I would have been without a car to get home in and I'd have probably wound up with an Astra loan car.

So, this leads on to the title of the thread as I'm losing some confidence here Big Cry

Please talk to me!

Sounds like this one is certainly not as reliable as your last D4!

Sorry to hear your news, that's really not great.

Having a wobble is certainly understandable, even more so now the new Discovery is not necessarily an option (given imho it is the ugliest car in existence), just try to focus on why you picked the Discovery and what it does for you that nothing else will do.

If you remain happy with what it does then whilst it's a pain, you do have a warranty and they will get it sorted (assuming you are not using Carrs!), so just give them a little more time before making any decisions you may regret, like buying a D5! Whistle Rolling with laughter

You're bang on there, my last one was about perfect.

I'm getting a little deja vu in relation a Citroen C5 that I had from new in 2002. I was fairly laid back when it first went into the garage at about 2 or 3 months old and I didn't get it back for 3 1/2 months!! I hope that I'm over reacting, but this dealer screwed up badly with the only LR that I ever had problems with before and I wound up trading out of it in mid-late 2014.

Thanks!

It's not Carrs (you don't have a lot of time for them, do you?! Laughing ). This is the problem, with the current Discovery now well and truly no longer an option, only a Range Rover comes vaguely close and that so much ££££££... Shocked

Hello,

Sorry to hear of your troubles and indeed the dealer lethargy if I may call it that. 1100 miles in 7 days is a fair mind focus but might I suggest that next time they loan you a decent courtesy car you explain that you have extensive work mileage to cover over the next three days... I am sure they will ask a little more detail and when you confirm Scotland they will acknowledge and scuttle away. Hey presto, a day later they will be on the phone with the problem sorted, at least in the interim.

Sometimes dealers need to be focussed.... IMHO

And there was me thinking I had kept my loathing for them secret Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

I also feel a proper Range Rover is now the only option and to be honest I'm no longer as keen on those as I once was. Carrs spoilt that as well by having a white one with a black pack Shocked

My problem now is I can't even buy the Volvo I wanted as the good Mrs Fitzy tells me we are having a horse each, so in the near future I am going to need all the towing capacity I can get.

I don't have a problem with Carrs, I've used them a lot too!

Do you have your car back then or are you in a loan car still?

Whats the latest?

Thanks for the replies Thumbs Up

Still in the loaner, which they'd only just finished fully valeting by the time that I turned up to get it mucky again!

I've just chased and there's no chance that I'll get it back for the weekend; they're currently waiting for LR to call back with instructions on what to do next. I really, really needed a car with a proper boot for Monday Sad The RRS's boot is not a serious one.

No. It's currently a mystery.

I really wouldn't have thought this was rocket science, or even anything they hadn't seen many times before. Surely, if it's not the sensor, then there must already be an established procedure for the next bit to test and / or replace.

Yeah I agree! So they haven't given you an idea when you will get yours back? Annoying especially when you need yours back.

There is. They will have uploaded the vin and fault code to the LR service site, it will have come back with a list of instructions. Their technician just follows the steps listed.

Out of interest, why did you change from your list D4?

A very good question! Sad

I'd done 35,000 miles in it in the year I'd owned it and loved it. Having had a good look at the D5, I felt it was time to get the newest and best D4 that I could lay my hands on, hence a 12,900 mile, ex LR Management, HSE Luxury. Kathy had also got fed up with the "attention magnet" Firenze Red of our last three LR's and we used the opportunity to change to a, slightly more discreet and classic, Aintree Green.

It does make me wonder if my old HSE is still running as well as it always did! Rolling Eyes
