How do I check if my calipers are OK? |
|
Having new lower arms fitted this weekend, but just in case this doesnt fix the wobble in the steering wheel when braking, next stop is to check the calipers I think.
So any hints on how to see if they are OK or not would be appreciated!
Thanks

whip the pads out and see if piston come out and retract...even with good caliper action if the disc is buckled that could give you wobble

Thanks
I have replaced the discs and pads with good brand ones, but it (the wobble) came back. I also do not get a pulse through the brake pedal, so I am reasonably confident there is another underlying issue.

Yes, its the same when I ave my winter tyres and wheel on, which are brand new.
Already had new pads and discs, inner and outer track rods, drop links and ARB bushes. All of which were past their best anyway.
I am a bit OCD about wobbles and the like, so I just have to keep going

So it did go and came back? - typical of none OEM discs on a D4 I'm afraid It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

It was MUCH better when the discs went on, but not gone completely.
I read alot about that issue before buying, and bought the TRW kit from Advance F, and I have not read anyone who has had to return these.

I doubt it is the calipers, could be the wear on lower swivel joints which come with new arms, or lower steering column UJ, try lubricating the UJ as a temporary measure. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Not entirely true, only with some and those seemed to be those who used OEM! My 2012 was fine with Borg and Beck from AF Joined the BMWX5 45e group
