Anyone else with full length black roof rail staining?
My My16 D4 HSE Lux has the full length black roof rails.
They are getting very stained with something. I think it is probably the metal reacting to a detergent in the car washers water but I could be wrong. It looks like the start of rust (i.e. it is extensive and all over the rails) but it isn't as there is no surface feel to the staining at all.
It isn't obvious from a distance but close up it is marked to the naked eye.
It is due a 32K service in a week or so and I think I will mention it under the 'corrosion' element of the warranty and see where I get.
Anyone else had similar issues?

Yep - I have seen similar on my old D4, and on my MY16 something similar around the window rubbers. Its must be something to do with cleaning products

Or the TFR they spray all over it at the dealership when they wash it!

Ive seen with my own eyes the damage screenwash can do to so some finishes, my works tool box made by snap on is fine but the side lockers again by snap on reacts to the screenwash and it sort of ecthes itself into the paint.

Rarely seen one without if it's been in an auto car wash (or an Albanian carwash). Comes off readily with a swift application of colour restorer.

No snowfoam use but yes to Albanian car washes.... I am not sure it is screen wash as it is so uniformly all over the rails like some form of 'disease'. Any recommendations on the colour restorer (yes, I know I need black.... ) people use?

Do you regularly park under trees?
I only ask because the black trim on the disco's I used to park near trees didn't react well to the tree sap. The roof rails used to get stained with that blotchy rust looking pattern every summer. It would come off with vigorous T-Cut but I would want to do that too often!

I use Wilko's colour restorer (grey bottle black top), very gentle and works well. Used to be a £ a pop until the trade discovered it and the price more than doubled. I also use it for light scratches with excellent results. Oh and on the headlights of the Micra runabout, works a treat.

Mine are the same on my 2006 d3, it had a prospeed roof rack when I bought it, I took the sunroof off , thought it was down to lack of cleaning.2006 D3 2.7tdv6 SE Zermatt (6A)
