D4 commercial rear window modification with working windows
I thought i'd post after making my disco 4 rear windows operational.
1. Order window finish panels ELN000033 and ELN000023.
These are fitted on the 2012, however, the commercial panels are bonded on to these, so they look messy when stripped and are covered with bonding. At £25 each + vat & delivery it won't break the bank
2. Door Panel Removal :-Remove the two internal silver door handle caps, remover 4No. screws, remove screw hidden behind door lever, then unscrew the two screws located at the bottom of the door panel, remove window switch by popping it out & disconnect. Pull the door panel from one corner and follow it around to completely free up the panel. Disconnect all the wires, note the spare with is taped to the door handle receiver, this operates the window.
3. Window motor :- remove the three screws and retrieve the motor, replace the screws to prevent the motor falling through the door skin. Remove the bonding which has been placed in the window motor switch. Test the motor with a multi-meter to prove it works then solder one wire to each of the flat bar terminals. Leave the motor out for now. If they don't work or you can't be bothered, order two new motors, the part number is on the motor, they are about £110 + vat each.
4. Remove the bonded window panels from the door, get you fingers under the bottom of the panel and pull it should free with a little force, if you struggle, use a stanley knife to assist by cutting the bonding. Once the panel is off, cut off all the bonding around the two holes where the standard land rover fixings are used. Don't worry about the rest of the bonding, leave it. Remove the double sided tape which is stuck to the top and side of the door frame (it sticks the panel to the door).
5. Free the windows by placing a flat palm on the inside and one on the outside of the window and pull, wiggle and force and it should free the bonding which is securing the window. If this doesn't work, use a stanley blade and run it around the sides and top of the inside if the window seal against the glass. Once you free the window, clear the bonding out of the channel and off the window. Refit the window motor at this point.
6. Fit the new window finish panels :- locate the two yellow fixings in to their holes the fit the rest of the panel (remember to remove the blue or red tape of the double sided stick tape first). Use a rubber hammer or something similar to tap it into place.
7. Connect the two motor cables to the spare switch where the two fat cables are. Test the window, you may need to swap the wires over. Once the window is working, solder the wires into place. Connect all the remaining wiring loom and door handle in to place.
8 Replace door panel, screws and caps.
Job done

Thats great. Think i will do it myself then when the commercial arrives. Couple of questions
Item 3 - The bonding in the motor switch - is this in the electrical connection block.
How do you test the motor with a multimeter to check it works - do you mean put 12v through it.
What wires do you solder to the flat bar terminals - could you use seperate female electrical connectors.
Item 5 - When you 'free the windows', do they move up and down because the motors are not attached.
Item 7 - What is the spare switch - do you mean electrical connector.
Do you have to run a new 2 - core cable from the newly soldered connection on the motor to this 'spare switch' and then make another soldered connection.
If you do get these wires the wrong way around, does it cause any damage.
If i buy new motors, do these additional cables and connection blocks come with it.

Rear Windows
Are you guys referring to the very rear windows? The ones in the boot that don't move?

That's a shame, I would love for these windows to be able to open slightly on one side, even just an inch or two.

There is a company that can do that and have them on gas struts to open them fully to provide a side hatch. I would presume the conversion would not be cheap.
The discrete satellite dish is extra.

Didn't mean to offend anyone, I thought it was an open forum. We don't have the "commercial" Disco in Australia, so I thought maybe you guys in the UK had some creative ideas.
