Scuttle Panel Degrading
There seems to be some degrading of the plastic scuttle panel trim on my 2013 discovery. Does anyone else's vehicles have this? It looks like the type of discolouring and degrading that you would see on an old 1980's Vauxhall nova, not something you would expect from a 4 year old landrover
It appears Disco 3's & 4's all do this.
Some replace the panel with a new one.
Others use the variety of back to black treatments you can buy
Even peanut butter is used to treat back trim
Back to black treatments do vary in price & performance
Not the cheapest - but it chemically bonds to the trim you treat & lasts maybe 6-8 months
There are other treatments....BREXIT - done properly.

I put a new one on mine a couple of years ago and its just as bad now as the old one I took off. I have a 15 yr old suzuki van and the scuttle on that is as good as the day bought it. LR must use some pretty crap plastic

Mines the same as Phil said above new one fitted approx 18mths ago and its faded already not as bad as the original one but give it another 12 months and it will be there.
Even new panels fade
30ml of Gtechnik C4 "does" all the exterior black plastic on a D3.....just....there's a lot more exterior black on a D3 than a D4.
15ml would do the scuttle a number of times.
C4 isn't cheap. But I reckon it's worth it. A step up from the usual Halfraudian bottles.
Most exterior & under bonnet plasticparts aren't spray painted, interior plastic trim panels are spray painted so the colours & finish match exactly, it's quite an exacting process (I maintained one in a LR plastics parts supplier for 2 years)
Lots of exterior & underbonnet plastic is made by "Linpac".....a boss I worked for went there & said the "chip" used always an element of "reclaim".....that's reject stuff regranulated & molded, this usually makes the actual color vary & the plastic not as resistant to weather & UV light (it's tested on an environmental rig)
If the right type & colour of paint could be had (?) the scuttle could be painted but I haven't a clue how durable interior trim paints are "outside"BREXIT - done properly.

Ah right, so it seems to be a common issue. I think I will look into a trying one of the perminant restoring solutions rather than the full replacement.
