V8 Service Due - what to cover |
|
Hi,
First year servicing my V8 (2006 coming up on 72k miles) and I'd like to know if there's anything I should look for as I prep to lift her up, do the oil, rear brakes, etc. Are there anythings I need to check in terms of wear items/things properly done up, etc? In the past year I've changed a wheel hub, the thermostat housing and have flushed the transmission DIY style (that was fun). Pretty much everything else seems OK. I have my trusty IID BT.
Grateful for any pointers.

In no particular order
1. Throttle body clean
2. PCV valve replace
3. MAF sensor clean
4. Aircon recharge
5. Battery - check and or replace
6. Discs and pads - check or replace.
7. Alignment check
8. F&R arbs

Earthling - what is this 'T' piece that you speak of
Is it a known failure on old V8 D3 models

'Local' earthling to you
Will add some more detail in the thread on mine when I swap it but apparently it's another weak point on the V8's - more explained on this thread on SA 4x4 forum:

Part no is LR027661
Another for the list Disco 3 V8 with added LPG

It's cooling down now
Out of interest, I'm assuming you do the service yourself? Toying with getting mine serviced by someone local as it's the first one since I've had it for an independent opinion on a few things.
Geoff coming to do gearbox flush at the weekend though so another thing off the list Disco 3 V8 with added LPG
Disco 5
Plus a few other toys...

I did all the little jobs, MAF, Throttle body,PCV,roof drains etc. I had Dakar do a full service inc plugs and AHL do a full alignment.
Geoff sounds like the man to do gearbox flush, guess you will have it reset as well.

The gearbox 'flush at home' technique is very easy. Lots of info here about it. Quite satisfying. You don't get a complete flush, but do it twice over say 6 months and it's probably as good as. Made a considerable difference to my car's tranny. PAGODA

Another thing for the 'preventative list' - Front differential breather, not just for V8's as far as I'm aware.
While flushing my gearbox at the weekend, Geoff spotted mine was the old type which can become blocked causing the diff to eventually blow its seals as the pressure builds. It's been temporarily snipped whle I await the upgrade - helpfully available from Advanced Factors:
