Power steering

Hi Guys.

Looking for a little advice.

Steering goes stiff after about 5 miles and practically impossible to turn unless you rev it to 1500 revs and the pump is very noisy.
Had the bottom UJ replaced but still the same Just looked under and i'm loosing a little fluid from my steering rack I have been advised to replace the pump and rack as the technician thinks the seals in the rack have gone and possible metal fillings are being pumped round.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Rich

I need to add that this started to get stiff a year ago after I had a new engine in so the body was off to do it don't know if this has anything to do with it or not.

No assistance would point to pump to me after all the rack only does what its told to and no pressure = no go.
But as body been off could be twisted/damaged/trapped suction hose, which may also explain the pump noise.
Have you checked to see if the belt is slipping under pas load? is the belt cracked/glossy?

Just had the same problem with mine. I thought it was the power steering pump. It turned out the leak was from the steering rack. The garage replaced the O rings and saved me a lot of money.
The garage is Groombridges Heathfield an Indy garage.
Brilliant service.

So the saga continues I was advised to drain and flush out the fluid so I had that done. No different, now I am trying Stop leak but it seems like I must give it a couple of days to see if it takes up any leaks so I will keep you chaps informed if anything changes.

Ouch.

Had to bite the bullet and had the Power steering pump and rack replaced at the weekend. My daughters mechanic boyfriend did it for me he said never again it took him 9 hours to do both but it steers absolutely fantastic now. Only wish I had it done earlier.
