Vibration under hard acceleration.... |
|
Hi, I have a 56 plate LR3, manual, and I have for a while now been getting vibration and mechanical noise when I accelerate hard from 1st and second, sometimes under 3rd if I try! You can feel and hear the vibration, I have turned the DSC on and off and tried driving in each condition although the same happens.
If a drive steady and accelerate steady I can drive without it happening although if I was to pull away hard at a junction for example it would almost certainly do it.
Any ideas would be great? Iv checked brakes, handbrake, tyres and DSC.
Thanks!

There appears to be a slight amount of movement and knocking. Worth replacing the whole prop shaft or are these things easy enough to split and put new bearings in?

Just an update, the rear prop has now been changed. All working as it should, although unfortunately I'm still getting a shudder under hard acceleration in low gears?
One thing eliminated at least!
Any ideas?

My thinking in order of priority
1\ Check Automatic transmission fluid level, I found my level to be 0.8 litres low.
2\ has transmission fluid and filter been changed?
3\ Consider a recalibration of the Low and Hign transfer case clutches.
4\ Consider a full reset of the auto transmission.

As there is nothing obvious, I will work through a list and see if any of them solve the issue, as I really want to know what could be causing it.
I'll start with changing oils in both diffs, then gearbox and transfer box.
Tyres are getting changed shorty in the next month or so.
Then I'll check brake discs and calipers all round.
I'll keep updates on here.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated
Cheers

Also another development it always does this horrible vibration after going over speed bumps or any bumpy ground. Once it starts after going over a bump it stays like that for a few moments before going away.
Could this be an issue with suspension causing such vibration?

Dab the brakes on at 5/10 mph if it bumps its front suspension or anti roll bar bushes. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Just an update,
It has been to my local Indy, they ave replaced rear suspension arm, front wheel bearing and it has had 4 new tyres fitted.
STILL having the issue. My thoughts are that there is a problem with the central ediff. It's like it's locking on when traction is lost, but not releasing.
Does anyone have any experience of this? Could the solenoid be sticking in the transfer box, holding the lock on the diff?

Fill out your profile, then folks would know you drive a manual!
In your case, could it possibly be a bit of clutch judder or minor slip? How is the front propshaft condition? Could be a stiff u/j.
Perhaps exhaust mountings are loose or missing?

Hi
Front prop is in good condition as well as the rest of the drive train. This problem does not happen all the time, just under specific conditions, i.e. When traction is lost, so speed bumps are a big problem.
It gives all the signs of a differential locking, although once it's activated it does not want to disengage. My thought are that it's something mechanical/electrical not disengaging, like the solenoid not returning properly, or maybe the traction control module is not sending the correct information to the transfer box holding the diff lock on.
