Tips from bikers..

Ive got a few long trips coming up so thought it was about time I refreshed a few things and sought some tips notably on YouTube and found myself watching videos from biker types on camping and touring from motorbikes.

I'm not saying it's for everyone but watching them allowed me to refocus on what I actually do need to take on a long trip. What is a luxury and what is an essential and also picked up a few handy snippets on micro equipment and the like. Particularly tools, chairs and cooking..

It's not for everyone I'm sure just wanted to sAy how useful it was to view the same problems from a slightly different perspective.

Emphasising this year is the 31st anniversary of my first proper overland adventure down through Morocco to the Sahara and back in two ropey old series landrovers with tents you'd cry if you were given - so I have a few years under my belt too.

Only a fool has nothing to learn as the saying goes..

It is also worth looking at what carp Fishermen (and women) and hikers take with them to keep weight down.

I have a little fold up stove that I use, amazing bit of kit. Another one that is handy is the Kelly kettle.

Like you say not for everyone though.

Very true of course and looking around d my campsite I can see a carp bivvy table with a stove on it.

I do a bit of hiking still so yeah you are right there are cross overs though generally double up and leave my rucksacks packed.

On the bikers, some of the nifty little tools, though probably bike specific, tweaked my interest.

One in particular... If you think of a bicycle multi tool thingy or a Swiss Army knife but now try and imagine a grown up version for a motorbike. Thought it was pretty cool and the sort of shiny thing I. Igbo pick up if I saw one again! Evil or Very Mad

I haven't seen one of them. When I get a chance I like to off road on my bikes so that would be handy.
I also fish. Lots of places to off road and fish here but I just don't have the time at the moment.

That's not a moan, I have a beautiful 3 year old daughter who keeps me busy and I love every minute off it.

Can't wait to take her green landing in the D3 and fishing when she is a bit older.

Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

As soon as I posted that, I knew it was silly. By the time I loaded my Bivvy, bed, seat, sleeping bag and so on there ain't much room. How did we manage before barrows?

Marker float rod and spoding rod, four normal rods. 6 reels....what the hell happened?

If I am doing an overnighter or evening trip I can get it all on my back. The small stove is handy then, just enough for tea and a fry up.

I took all the rear seats out of the Pajero, it is basically a van so I could crashout in that.....if I can drive up to the lake that is.

If you want to go super light, throw away the tent and get a Hennessy Hammock and a larger lightweight fly sheet.
Its your bed (Prolly the comfiest sleep you will ever have) and a chair. Get a set of "Snakeskins and it packs down to nothing.
No crawling in and out of tents wet trying to get undressed... Thumbs Up
