Limited 275/45/20 tyre choice - search for the all rounder

First off – apologies for another tyre thread but I really am in a quandary of what to go for…

Im in the process of refurbing a set of these that I was given, and to be honest, I look forward to get them on as I really don’t think my 511 suit the boxiness of the disco. 511s look great on a curvy car like Evoke or the Discovery sport but in my mind are just too busy for the square angles of the D4. Sorry but I can only draw with a ruler… Shocked

Anyway they are genuine and a 9.5J, so thinking I need to step up to a 275/45 to protect my investment from the Mrs and curbs and if they made a Pirelli Scorpion Zero in a 275, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy them. Had 3 sets on two discos and they have been fantastic as I think they are great all-rounder, being quiet, good road manners and have never let me down off road in 6” deep sludgy mud.

Unfortunately they don’t make them in a 275/45, or the Pirelli ATR in that size.

The car is mainly a family school bus/shopping mule during the week, however I shoot and fish so am often in the woods or off the beaten paths, hence my quandary…

Amazed to see that there is a 3m gap on the wet braking tests between the letters, that’s potentially up to 9m difference between a Pirelli B rated wet brake and a Grabber E rated at 50mph, I am put off to going straight for an ATR like a Grabber or a Cooper.

Been looking at the Conti Cross Contact UHP which seem to have good reviews as an all rounder like the Zero, but looking for any experience/ alternatives to research within the premium rated road tyre range, that still offers an aggressive enough pattern to be above competent in off road conditions.

Looking for thoughts please guys + girls.

check 265/50x20 specs as well, as thats what I ran on my D3 and D4 for quite a while, (Yokohama Advan ST) as these are also rated at 111W, whereas most 275x45x20's are only rated up to 110 which isnt quite high enough for D3 but is OK on D4.

They had really good wear rate, quiet, and whilst being a "road" tyre even got me moving with the 'van off a wet field.

Worth a look.

On a certain web site (openeo) they give about 40+ different premium tyres in that size. It might give you an idea of other tyres that are available.
Also I've heard you can't compare B and E wet grip between manufacturers as evey company uses their own base point, which means the letters are of no use except comparing tyres of the same brand.

Thanks - will have a look - but must admit im really looking for something as wide as possible to protect the rims. Every cm counts...

Sorry for my poorly worded title - shouldn't really say "limited". I have looked at Black circles and there are 20+ tyres that would go on but what I really wanted to narrow down was a good road tyre that was also good off road from personal experiences/recommendations to look at.

Just out of interest - anyone got a side on pic of how a 255 fits on a 9.5J by chance?

Is that wheel the RRS "Supercharged" 20 inch? If so, is it load rated adequately for a D4?

if its genuine its should be rated at 900kg (as are most RRS alloys). D3 alloys (19")were rated at 940kg.

D4 needs slighlt lower than D3 (certainly for tyres it does, 111 on D3, 109 on D4) so anything at 900kg or above should be fine.

Its the cheap copie alloys sold for use on the VW tansporter that are only 650kg. Some of the copies sold for LR can be up to 1050kg. You just have to check
