don't know if its of any use but had a couple of annoying rattles like this

1/ when i removed my headliner i found the alarm sensor unit was loose and not clipped in correctly , after reinstalling it i also found the intermittent alarm going off stopped

2/ the plastic that went onto the light wasn't quite fitted correctly

wonder if it could be a module slightly loose creating the annoying noise

very easy for the bulb holders to get pushed backwards which would probably allow that kind of rattle (fixed mine before I moved again so can't swear to that).

the whole unit pulls off from headlining quite easily.

just watch out it's not some strange foreign insect(s) you've collected !!

(and quite amazing with all the stuff in the boot you're not drowned out by rattles from there)

Strangely I have recent experience in removing the lights fixings from the roof. And I did get the odd long dead bug dropping down. Laughing Laughing Will have a look at them & see if it helps, would rather not drop the headlining, that's a bit above and beyond. Thumbs Up

The stuff in the boot is well packed in with as much being jammed in by other stuff as I could get. Pretty quiet. Thumbs Up

I had that on one of mine, the 2015 HSE I think. The dealer tracked it to a loose clip, one of the ones that holds the headlining.

My 2010 HSE was totally rattle and squeak free. Must have been luck!

aplogises , Bow down

worded it wrong, no need to remove the headliner and access with the light removed, the sensor wasn't clipped in correctly and rattled Thumbs Up

No need to apologise!! Will have a look at it once home. Daft thing is it can be good as gold, but then stats rattling, then just stops for the next few hours. My working theory is it doesn't like the sun on the roof.

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

i had that on my freelander, when it was in full sun i could her a rattle

removed the light and cured it by putting some insulating tape around the securing tabs

wonder if that's the same with ur light , as the pins that secure it to the roof, maybe a small piece of tape on them , or even a small amount of ptfe , just stopping the noise against the roof

another one i found in my d3 was the back light had a very small piece of plastic that rattled around in the light

now have no rattles

know it's annoying as hell and hope u find it
