A grumble....

No, not that sort.... Whistle
It struck me this morning while out for a drive, and having driven the new 2L D5, and various turbo-charged modern 4-cylinders recently, that my D4 really does make a very nice grumbly noise.....
It's no Aston of course, but there is a deep, rich baritone bass engine and exhaust noise that doesn't get mentioned much when people talk about V6 diesels....rattly, thin and weedy are the usual descriptions for diesels.
In a World of synthesised engine noise, and artificial exhaust rasp piped into the cabin, the noise a D4 makes is often overlooked.
It's yet another reason I think I'll stick with the old girl for a while longer.

You should try the V8 - now that's a proper engine noise. Very Happy

We have a short hill out of the village....a V8 driver gunned it up there a couple of years ago, it did indeed make a very nice noise 8)

Listen to just about every diesel car you hear when parking up and I would say 95 percent of them are 4 pots and any 6 pot certainly stands out.
To me high end motors with 4 pots sound cheap audi/merc/bmw ect.
