Spare Wheel Cable / Carrier Issue

I had the joys of a puncture over the weekend with a piece of metal sticking in my almost new Pirelli Scorpion... Crying or Very sad

I pumped up the tyre enough to get me to the tyre garage, when I got there I was the only one there and after removing the wheel, surprise surprise they said they couldn't repair it - I'm goign for a 2nd opinion elsewhere - As I had a brand new tyre on an alloy as a spare they fitted that and put the punctured wheel / tyre and RLD in the boot.

Yesterday I thought I'd put my old spacesaver in the carrier - just whilst I source a new tyre or I manage to get the puncture repaired... Unfortuantely I could only lower my sparewheel cable/carrier a couple of inches.

Is this because there was no weight on it or its been damaged when the tyre garage wound it back up without a wheel on it?

Expensive week as just had the belts changed and a big service... Sad

Any advice / comments greatly appreciated...

Yes, it needs some weight on to pull the cable out cleanly. Get somone to help. Wind a bit back in first to sort out the mess, then apply some load as you unwind it again.

If your puncture was anywhere near the sidewall, you probably wont get anyone to repair it. Sad

Thanks, I'll see if I can convince my neighbour to help, either that or hang one of the children off it...

The puncure was actually in the tread in the centre, they thought the metal was too large - I think a quiet Saturday afternoon with no customers and a private plate Disco 4 owner...

It shouldn't be wound back up without a wheel on it as it causes the cable to tangle inside the winch. I believe it states this in the handbook.

My old cable winch has now been replaced by an upgraded one with the heavier weight on it.

I must remember not to wind it back up without a wheel on it... Sad
