sun roof leak, where's the water going?

Hi All.

A puddle appeared in the nsf footwell a while ago and today was the first chance to fix it.

Well, dropped the headlining on the nearside and blew down the pipe. There was no resistance and it appeared clear. Did the front off side as well and was also clear. Did a trickle water test and off side flowed ok, coming out behind wheel. Tested the nearside pipe and although water disappeared down the pipe it didn't come out behind the nearside wheel. I suspect it reappeared in the footwell but as this was already soaked I couldn't be sure. popped the pollen filer out and it was bone dry.

Any ideas what to try next. Don't really want to remove the wing.

Also how the hell do you access the rear pipes from the sunroof to rod them out and check for blockages.

Thanks in advance

I'm have the same problem as we speak. Although my passenger footwell carpet is soaked but both drains seem to be draining on both sides as they should. I should imagine that your problem is the pipe is perished as it exits inner wing behind cjb so needs to be replaced. Not sure what the problem is with mine yet though Big Cry

Is your pollen filter wet?

My pollen filter is dry as a bone. Only thing I can think is wrong with mine is it must have a hole internally that's letting some water in but not big enough to not let it drain externally.

Just an update on mine. I got two small plastic cups the same size and filled one with water and marked the level on the side, then transferred water to the other and marked that one. I then took the wing vent out ( d4 wings ) and placed the empty cup under the outlet. I poured the water down the suspected drain and got the exact amount of water exact to the mark.

Where else could the water be coming from? My pollen filter is bone dry.

Scuttle panel not flat against the screen, letting water run down onto the back of the CJB

Yup. Runs down the screen, and behind the scuttle, where it then finds its way into the car

Needs a new scuttle, or some tape to hold it down as a temp repair Thumbs Up

I'm out here with a hose. Got the carpet up. Ran hose all over windscreen with no water leaking into footwell. Trickle the hose in the front of the sunroof surround its fine. If I move the hose round the side of the surround but still at the front end water starts dripping from the a pillar.

Looks like the mastic seal holding the sun roof to the body has failed, has it had a new sun roof fitted at any time?
Only one solution, dry it out and pump some windscreen adhesive in taking care not to block the drain hole up.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

As far as I know the sun roof is original. It seems to me that there's a restriction is the drain so it seems to be over filling the surround after a while. But this seems to be reoccurring. I blow it out with an airline and it seems fine. Then a week later it seems to block. Not entirely though. If I push a smaller pipe down the drain hole and blow down it, it seems like there's restriction.

I cleared the fos drain easily and trickled some water in and it drained fine. Couldn't manage to get water to exit from the fns drain though and I also suspect it's perished or somehow become detached as water still ends up in the footwell. As a temporary measure I've stuffed some blue tac in the drain hole so hopefully it'll drain out of t he offside pipe. Got fed up in the end and couldn't find how to get to the rear drain off pipes.

Only problem with blocking one drain up is if it's parked at an angle with that drain hole at lowest the water would fill the surround in that corner and flow over the side into headliner before it gets to drain from any of the others.
