Getting a cable through bulkhead for a separate circuit is dead simple and easy to lay under door/floor trims to the load area. Going to be much easier than wiring into existing circuits. takes about half hour max for a non skilled person like me. Thumbs Up

There is non-skilled and there is me. Embarassed Embarassed I was thinking if I'm running a cable to the rear, run a big cable then to the area above the compressor air intake, then build a socket bank in the cover I took from Dark Bluie. Plus if big cable I've got capacity for heavy use appliances like the Viair compressor.

Though I was wondering if the fuse for the towing electrics was in the engine bay. That's already connected to the rear ciggie socket and was wondering if I could nick one end of that circuit, connect it to the aux battery rather thank the crank batt, then that'll run the fridge.

Mind you, I have to get the 👍 from SWMBO, she says only competent hands can do this. Big Cry

Looking to follow this kind of setup, pic nicked from a post by Iceman.

There are a fair few posts on doing this, like Iggys, but mostly pretty old so items no longer around on fleabay.

Anyone got links for:

The heavy cable in the above pic? What sort of amps is that type of cable rated to? Just trying to build in capacity for future, poss Anderson connector for compressor but that's for later.

The distribution block that the heavy cable goes into.

In fact any links/recommendations/suggestions for any of the bits would be great. Whistle Whistle I don't even have any cable to go to each socket. Pretty much starting from scratch. I do have a fuse box but think the top of it may have been left in Dark Bluie. Sad

PS Is there an earthing stud in the back there for the neggie cable?

Del - Roger and Jess both have their second battery mounted behind the R/H middle seat row. It fits perfectly into the space behind the seat and just under edge of the boot floor. Also makes it quite easy to attach any additional cable runs for sockets, distribution boards etc Thumbs Up

And there are plenty of earthing studs in the side rear cubby holes Thumbs Up

Any pics? And how secured down? Would mean I mount the solenoid in the aux battery box, heavy cable through to the battery there and distribute onwards. How do they cover up the terminals in case someone shoves something back there and shorts across the terminals? Questions, questions. Whistle Would be easier for me as I'll be taking out row 2 & 3 out anyway to fit the load deck. Thumbs Up

I can see how that would work. Yellow Top fit in there? I'm thinking my present higher capacity beisure battery might be a bit too tall, even with the load deck. Should fit, spec says it's 190mm high and looks OK.

The solenoid would go in the engine bay and run a honking great cable through the secret grommet then up the cable channel and out under the carpet. Just got to find an ignition live point in the engine bay to provide a signal feed for the solenoid.

A plan is coming together. Mr. Green Mr. Green

Mine is similar to how you plan yours Del. I used 35mm2 cable from here http://www.altecautomotive.co.uk/35mm2-aut...3805-p.asp
With these terminals to the fuse box http://www.altecautomotive.co.uk/small-bat...1701-p.asp
I use 150 amp circuit breakers at the battery end here http://www.altecautomotive.co.uk/circuit-b...4089-p.asp
175 amp anderson connectors http://www.altecautomotive.co.uk/anderson-...1034-p.asp
And fuse box here https://www.amazon.co.uk/Way-Blade-Fuse-Box-Cover/dp/B00EO5CJGA

Some photo's .. sorry about quality, getting dark out there now

Not quite on the same scale as those ^^^^^ but cables arrived today. 2 x 10m 2.5mm2 (30A) and 2 x 10m 1mm2 (16A). I know you need a lot less -ve cable but 10m wasn't much more than 5m for either.

Still thinking re running a heavy cable to the back, even if it's not connected but it's there. I keep mentioning it to SWMBO and she just asks "why?", I just answer "coz if you're pulling one cable you may as well pull two". Whistle

PS If I was to put a heavy cable from aux battery box, through into cab at driver side, then back to passanger side rear, is 5m enough?

Iirc I ordered 10m to go from battery box to rear cubby. I didn't use the full 10 metres but I definitely didn't have 5 metres left after I had routed it under all the trim.

Right, had an epiphany. Thumbs Up

Not getting anywhere re engine area ignition live feed under the bonnet for the solenoid but realised I have an easily accessible ignition live source that has been unearthed when I took the relay out to make the aux sockets live off the aux batter. As I'm running a cable from where the aux battery is, I can pull a second cable through that would go from there to the 12v sensing spade of the solenoid.

Now just got to use the DMM to figure out which of the left and right side "sockets" are ignition live and which is -ve. Thumbs Up From the diagram on the relay would suggest that its pin 2 of the solenoid, the socket on the RHS of the above pic. Thumbs Up

Unless someone sees a problem with my fiendish plan. It has been known. Laughing Laughing

Been out fiddling with bits of wire, a DMM and a voltmeter in the aux socket to see what's going on. As per Beanie's recommendation, the lower horizontal receiver bit for a blade connector feeds the centre right and middle aux socket (rear already perm live off the crank battery). Checked that with my leisure battery in the passanger footwell, cable from the +vet to the horizontal relay socket bit and -ve to the side of the "cigar lighter" socket. Voltmeters fired up in both the aux sockets so jobs a good un, once we get the battery in the engine bay and wired up to the crank battery.

Still got to figure out an ignition live trigger feed for the relay sensing, I thought I'd cracked it from the relay diagram but both the ones it could be stay live after the car goes to sleep, i.e. the cigar lighter socket switches off. Confused Confused

All getting a bit complicated, this electrickery malarkie. Big Cry Big Cry Idea
