I have a 2005 Disco 3 SE and up until recently the PTI system has worked fine. Now no one can hear me when I speak although I can hear them. Whilst most people think this is a great thing, I do not. When I press the 'speech' button on the RHS of the steering wheel, after a few seconds the car says 'no speech detected' whereas it used to say that it could not understand me. This would lead me to deduce that the mic has stopped working. I have checked fuses but beyond that I don't know where to start.
Does anyone have any ideas what might be wrong and how I would go about fixing it? Thanks.

I have the same thing and have tried a new mic and bluethooth unit to no avail. Have to check the wires from mic to back of stereo and nav unit yet next. Under the instructions from Lord Wiggs we will get it sorted eventually dependant on my spare time at the moment I am sure.
If you get it sorted before me please let me know what your problem was.
Cheers

Thanks Paul,
If I don't get any success on the forum then I am going to get hold of an auto electrician to test the circuits. If it gets to that stage then I will post the outcomes.
Dave.

Hi, I took mine to my local independant Land Rover specialist who trced the fault to 2 broken cables. 1 in the door pillar and one below the passenger seat. It took about 4hrs all in to fix.
2 local auto electricians refused to look at it, but the specialist guys were great. If you are near Edinburgh I can recommend Whites Auto Services. They did a really good job at a reasonable cost.

I have a similar issue in so far as the bluetooth voice doesn't work (as previous posts, I can hear them but they cannot hear me) but........the navigation and other voice commands ie Notepad all work fine. Voice is detected without a problem.
Any one else got any ideas as to why one would work and not the other ??

My bluetooth stopped working correctly a few weeks ago acting exactly as the original post from 'glasgowdave' i.e when using the phone I can hear them but they can't hear me. I never thought of checking the voice recognition button on the steering wheel. I can't check it today as the D3 with an independent getting sorted for a suspension problem

Just to update my last post, I checked & my voice recognition & it is also not working ('no speech detected’) so I assume there is a fault with the wiring to the mic. Any suggestion on where to start faultfinding would be welcome. From the posts above I see that the faults were with the wiring but with each of the two problems solved it was with completely different sections of the wiring !
i.e.
1. “Sorted mine today was a faulty cable from mic to back of stereo so linked new one in and all sorted again.â€
2. “Hi, I took mine to my local independant Land Rover specialist who trced the fault to 2 broken cables. 1 in the door pillar and one below the passenger seat. It took about 4hrs all in to fix.â€

Bottom of the A pillar seems the most common problem .
Best off doing a continuity test from the mic end to the back of the radio
red wire at mic end ..pin 2 on radio
black wire at mic end ..pin 4 on radio G4 Gone ...but not forgotten
