Andy ... Assuming you get this sorted, the stolen key needs disassociating from the car. When mine was nicked - car, not key - first thing I was asked was to prove both keys still in my possession..

^ Why not. Some excellent advice being given. I will not get caught out like Andy downstream thanks to purchasing my replacement key from a reputable builders merchant. Didn't even have to take my log book in or two forms of ID... Cheers

I always thought a spring-loaded punch easier to carry. Looks like a pen clipped in your jacket pocket.
Being slightly more serious, pretty sure I watched a programme a few years back which showed scrotes walking past a car and flicking tiny stones at windows... They had it down to a fine art so you only knew what they were doing when commentator explained. Tiny stones but sharp corners hitting window just right and it really was like they'd flung a brick at it..

Prof ... As I've been paid out by insurance you can keep the car, but please change the plates and inform the police as it's a real PITA being stopped every couple of days..

Just a thought re I mobilising the car in case the tea-leaf comes along, remove a couple of vital fuses. And when you're in the glovebox grab the key.
Yes, deffo get the stolen key removed from the car's memory. Leaving that "live" is just inviting the car to be stolen. Though the thief can still get in and nick anything in the car.
