Ukraine 2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE Auto Java BlackDiscovery 3

We had a family of 4, with 2 very young children who came up without a booking very earlier this month.
I can understand 2 blokes away to do some hiking risking a night in the car, but a young family of 4 in a Vauxhall Astra is not a good idea.

We always book or phone ahead no matter what time of year and certainly wouldnt take the family away high season to any of the uk hot spots without booking.

In winter, we have almost been the only car on the coran ferry. Happy times if you are not in a rush.

We've been coming to Skye for years. Our grandparents started it by hiring a house in Glendale and then buying a house near Struan. The grandparents are long gone but we've still got the house. This year, we got broadband, hence being able to write this post while sitting in said house.

We've visited the Fairy Pools, Quiraing and Neist Point this week. Roads have been a bit busy but to be honest, with a bit of patience and planning it really hasn't been that bad. At the Quiraing, there are a couple of rocky parking spaces right by the start of the path that only 4x4s can park on and we've always managed to park right there. At the Fairy Pools, their is a Forestry Comission car park a few hundred metres up from the official car park and we've never had a problem parking there. At Neist yesterday we parked two bays away from the gate before the path down to the lighthouse.

I'm not sure I'd want to see all the single track roads widened, nor acres of Skye covered in car parks. What would be useful is public toilets at the main tourist sites.

Skye has changed so much since my first visit in 1970 (as a baby, I don't remember the early days so well). The Sabbath used to be fully observed, with no use of the boat, no hanging out washing, no shooting (used to be illegal in Scotland, may still be), no shops open, no ferries to the mainland - church was about it. I'll leave it to the proper locals to say if things are better now than they were then.
