Interesting dealer service...
Got the old D3 G4 booked in for its 80k service at the main dealers... This is the first car that I've ever had where I maintain it on the LR Extended warranty. Hence it needs to be serviced officially by a LR dealer.
Had all the belts and tensioner done by Geoff recently as I couldn't justify the rip off prices that the dealer wanted. But to keep the history up to date I booked it in with the dealer for a basic service....
Gave them a long list of faults which had amassed over the last year.... rumble from the drivetrain, reversing sensor kaput and air con not working. Told dealer all these faults should be covered by warranty.
First phone call end of first day.... hello yes we have done service and am negotiating with warranty for a new driveshaft to be fitted....
Good I'm thinking and getting value back out of the warranty company....
Second phone call at end of second day... hello yes we have now done the service for the agreed £300. Just to let you know this service is not an official service in accordance with the manufacturers specifications?
What ? I say? You will not stamp the service book?
No sir this is a basic service... for the official service to stamp the service book we charge £500!
What do you do for that then?
Oh we change all the filters.... and top up the screen wash....
But that's the same as the basic service .....
yes but no but....
Oh and for the warranty work on the sensors we need to take the rear bumper off and need to charge you a diagnosis fee of £100.... we have to diagnose it before changing them.
Oh and for the air con we need to agree a diagnosis fee ......
Silence at end of third day.....goodness knows when I'm getting it back....
Aaaarrrghhhhhh!

If they really are trying to charge you £200 more just to stamp the book I would get trading standards involved. All in all
It sounds like outrageous service

I await with eager anticipation the final bill......the bit I'm surprised about is how an official LR dealer does an unofficial basic service.....I can understand if you just ask for an oil change then the car is'nt serviced in accordance with the oem specs.... however I asked for a service not including all the belts....which was due by age rather than by mileage..... but at no time asked for a non spec service....
Hope the warranty comes up trumps......otherwise I'm in the poo poo.....

I understood that you can use any garage.... as long as they use manufacturer parts, then you are servicing it in accordance...

I haven't used a main dealer for years.
Not long back I had to have a whole new engine replaced under warranty by Jaguar in my XF. They didn't bat an eyelid at the service history carried out by my normal mechanic.D3 07 SE - still going strong

I think they are sort of right. You cant expect them to stamp to say the 7 year service has been done at LR when part of that service hasn't been completed. I get that the belts have been changed separately, so all the service requirements have been met. I would expect any garage to be the same.
This was the same when I used to have my Z4MC serviced. I always had an interim oil change completed between official service schedules. They would never stamp the book, as it wasn't a full service etc. Obviously you get the invoices to keep and show any new owners etc, so not really an issue.

Yes in that regard the service book is rather meaningless as anyone can acquire a stamp and stamp one..
Land Rover maintenance is all about prevention anyway and a good well maintained wad of receipts (like your extra work) will tell the story of your vehicle much better than stamps in a book anyway.D3 07 SE - still going strong

At the end of the day they are staying they will stamp it for another £200 and some filters.
They should either tick the A or B boxes regarding what has been done or if the cambelt really is their concern, write on the book "cambelts not replaced during this service as directed by owner"

So long as you keep the receipt im not sure what the issue is?
Of course you could waste your time/life going to trading standards with what is after all a pretty petty complaint, or just pay the bill keep the receipt as evidence of works done and never darken their doors again.
Must be a sponsor localish to you?

The whole point of paying a dealer is so that they put a nice stamp in the book.
You don't go there for quality of workmanship

Update and overall pleasantly happy.... as previous comments this wasn't an issue over whether this was a Cam belt service or not..this was never up for discussion...as it had already been done...what was requested was a normal interim service i.e. Not the full singing and dancing one...
It was always my desire to have the book stamped otherwise it was not worth doing...although more expensive they have made amends in other areas...
I got the car back today and under the LR warranty (2008 car) they have replaced the full prop shaft, the suspension compressor, the rear loom and reversing sensors, and obviously serviced the car...
Whilst it was in their possession they have also fully valeted the car ( without asking) including the full underbonnet area.... it now looks brand new under there... whatever they have treated the plastics with works exceptionally well...looks spanking!
So overall my faith has been restored.... you almost think they read this forum......
Also impressed with the LR Warranty...although expensive I think I have again recovered more from it than it cost!
