Probably better to claim as you have NCD protection, unless you want to get close and personal with the Disco. Guess the parts required paint etc will come to more than £350?

Just because you have protected no claims won't stop them putting your premium up. I would also talk to a local body shop if you have one, might not be as painful as you think, and tell them it's not an insurance job

But having protected NCD doesn't stop them from bumping up your policy price.==================================

Talk to an independent body shop. It may not be much more than your excess and you won't get the price increase in your insurance next year.

If you decide to fix it yourself, I have a Tonga green wing in the garage that I don't need.
The hassle of shipping & painting may not be worth doing.!
Very simple to remove & fit though.
Ideally pick up a used wing/door in the correct colour.

Repair it yourself with parts from a breaker in the correct colour.Even if you have protected no claims it does not stop them putting up the starting price of the insurance from say £600 to a £1000 and then giving you 65% so you pay in the long run Discovery 3 se gone

Id claim off the insurance, that's what it's there for tbh. Your insurance will go up, but I doubt to the degree suggested.
I claimed for pothole damage, basically a new wheel and tyre, but my excess was only £100 and I didn't see the premium rise.

If they are offering total loss then I'd take the money, buy it back from them and repair it myself

Hi All;
OMG!
Went around to couple repair shops and both have quote around the £2K figure to fix.
Also, have shopped around for parts, and found couple scrap yards, and prices were around the £170 mark for the wing + door, however couldn't find it in Stornway Grey.
Called Tesco claim line, and to my surprise my claim has been directed to the total loss team, and an engineer visit has been requested, as Tesco said:
"From the vehicle damage details you have provided, your vehicle may be beyond
economical repair and considered a `write off´ if the estimated costs to repair your vehicle
exceed its pre-accident value."
I wasn't planning to sell or get ready of the car, I've kept the car to a very high standard, what do I do now?
Many thanks
Lucio[/i]
Looking at your pics the gap between the front wing and door seems to have narrowed, so they might be covering themselves incase the lower A pillar has been damaged. If that hasn't happened it could be a very easy fix. Even a cheap DIY fix if you can find the correct colours. If the lower A pillar is damaged it could easily be an insurance write-off.
Edit. Is the door opening and closing as it should?

It could also mean that unfortunately and less of a surprise, that just perhaps, the person you spoke to hasn't any idea on what they are doing or telling you.
