EPB fault
Hi All, I've had this fault for a few...years. Somehow managed to get it through MOT last time but its up again. Basically the orange light is on and using my trusty IID tool Is get "U0128-87(2E). I did check the wire that is part of the loom going under the compressor. I spliced it and found that there was power (even under a 10ohm load) just before it crosses over. I seem to remember a power issues at some point a year or two ago. I gues it could also be the CAM wiring, or the actuator).
Does anyone have any suggestions for how to fault find this?
And where connectors (C2528 / C2527) are located?
Thanks
Ian

Not sure on the numbers you're quoting but I suspect they are the two located behind the N/S rear wheel on top of the chassis behind a plastic flap, problems with them EPB have been traced to these connectors before.Stu

Are they the quite large ones? I have the wiring diagram which is very helpful but I can't identify the connectors. Does anyone have a drawing showing where each connector physically is positioned? Thanks

Yes the two big ones that go from chassis to the body.Stu

I found it!
First I must point out that I'm an electronics engineer so this is up my street.
I used a multi-meter and measured the current going through the parking break fuse.
There was almost nothing so that indicated a blown EPB, cable break or worse a high resistance.
High resistance can occur if a cable or connector is corroded.
It makes finding a fault harder as you get a voltage reading (sometimes lower than battery voltage) but the circuit can't supply and current.
So to get over this you introduce a load (e.g. 10 ohm resistor in parallel will take about 1Amp) to mimic a connected device.
Here is what I did....
To make a test point, I spliced the power cable (thick yellow/green) that runs under the body.
This is part of the loom that feeds the air pump, so I did it a that point.
I did this by carefully cutting away the out sheath and slicing off some insulation from the cable.
I measured the voltage at this point it was 12Vish even with my load.
So this indicated that the cable/connectors (one under the FNS wheel arch I believe) was good to this point.
Then I took off the rear wheel and got in behind it (there lots of room there!).
I removed the connector and measured the voltage on the two yellow/green power wires.
It was 12V ish but when I introduced a load the voltage went to zero!
So the fault must be between the EPB connect and the wire at the air pump (there is a junction SJ406 but I could not find it.
I cut the two cables and spliced on (solder+head shrink) two new wires (I could have used one thick one).
When I connected these to the parking break fuse terminals the EPB started working!
So then I routed the new cables to the test point I had made earlier, I cut this wire and connected the new cable to it using crimp terminals.
I taped it up and all is working, took about 4 hours in total.
I hope this helps someone.
