Rumbling

Hi, I have a rumbling sound louder the more torque (in the front I think). It's quite when coasting/going slow and frequency increases with speed. It doesn't seem to be affected by turning.
It also seems to come and go (was OK a few days ago).
Anyone any idea what it could be?
Thanks

Ian,

Not meaning to alarm you but might it be a crankshaft bearing? I had two replaced on my D3 when I had one, almost sounds like the sound of stones being spun but muffled also.

I hope not!
I guess if the noise is speed rather than RPM dependent would be an indicator.
I'll take it for a test drive and see.

How did you get on Ian, did you get to the bottom of what is making the noise?

It's gone away.... but it will come back.
I suspect (hope) it is more drive than engine.
I've had lots of issues with the suspension (ORANGE/RED light) that I have only recently fixed.
So I'm wondering if it's height related and occurs when the suspension is down.
Prop shaft bearing has been mentioned by my local dealer.

OK I think I have the culprit. My front RH drive shaft is ****ed.
The inner CV is gone.
I guess the high difference makes sense as lowering/highering would change the angle the CV had to cope with.
I was searching around on the net and I found one for £133
Does anyone know if the "Brand: GKN - OEM - Supplier: Eurospare" is recomended?

Ian,
I know this doesn't exactly answer your question but, I've just bought a new genuine OEM rear prop shaft from AF which is GKN. Maybe Land Rover subbed all the drive shafts to GKN.
