I too had a D2 V8 ES with Lpg! It was lovely to drive, but had loads of trouble with it. The biggest problem was the loose cylinder liner which needed a new block. Also had lots of leaks from the sunroofs and radiators.
Drove a D3 in October 04 at the launch, and had one on the drive a month later. Much better in all respects.

Had the same problem with mine Gareth so we put a 4.6 with top hat liners in
Not looked back since moving on to the D3 though its a quantum leap forward in every aspect.==================================

I had the same dilemma, D2 td5 ES premium - full loaded including factory cdl
After 6 years of relatively trouble free ownership, I upgraded to a D3 HSE V8, they are both silver with black leather, and the driving experience is totally different, driving the D2 now just feels 'agricultural' compared to the D3
As long as you're happy with the colour, go for itD3 V8 with active rear diff

lpg'd of course
LPGd converted petrols must be a very British thing like ... Marmite to each his own I guess.
Older Petrols up here have sometimes been converted to RE85 (= bioethanol). They'll accept pretty much anything after that. Consumption goes up a bit but the unit price per liter is reduced by 40-50 eurocents so it usually makes sense financially if one drives a lot.
One can always add a flex fuel badge next to the V8 one to display one's green credentials

LPG is about half the price of petrol because it is greener, cost wise it makes the V8 D3 as cheap or cheaper to run than a diesel, you do lose a bit of power, but if you really need it a simple press of a button and it's there. And LPG cars are more common in parts f the EU then GB.==================================

I've had a few LPG cars in the past. My company had a policy of LPG company vehicles at one point. I personally had a Volvo V70 converted, which ran very well for 150k miles. I swapped that for the V8 D2, which ran well, but was let down by design shortfalls and cheap components.
My company had 2 Vauxhall Astra Dualfuels, and a Vectra DF. They ran very well and very economically for a lot of miles. Also had a Volvo V40 bifuel on the fleet for a while, it was a bit troublesome, and underpowered.
Definitly the factory fit lpg systems were better than the aftermarket.

I've had both and they each had a 'right' reason for owning them at the time.
Always had a soft spot for the late model D2's, think they look great but interior dynamics a bit compromised at 6'2" I found (always wanted driver seat to go back another couple of inches). Still some really good condition one's out there and I'd say prices are creeping up for the best ones, seen a few around the £10k mark, which is more than D3's in some cases.
If it's a daily driver I think the D3 will be the 'better' car and more suited and the general improvements are easy to see over the D2. If you drive them back-to-back I think you'd be hard pressed to pick a D2 over a D3 IMO.
However if it was not the main vehicle I'd rather have the V8 D2 personally. If my company car scheme ever offers convertible cars I'd be having one and then selling my MG TF and looking for a V8 D2 as my 'second car'.
I had a late model D2 V8 ES fitted with LPG. Thought it was great and really enjoyed it.

Did the late model D2 have the 4.6 engine? Mine was a 99 T reg, with the 4.0
Mine had no Cdl, but was lovely to drive. I ended up sealing the sunroof shut with silicone and disconnecting the handle!
It also had ACE which made it handle really well, when it didn't break!
I think they still look pretty fresh for a 20 yr old design!

I like the D2, D3 and early D4 styles much more than the later (post 2014?) D4 style. As for D5 ... not my cup of tea. Perhaps in 10 years it looks bulky enough to be accepted 8)

I can’t compare exactly, but I went from a 2004 D2 V8 to the 2011 D4 V8. I have to say they are totally diffrerent vehicles.
As Bobbygg said, the D2 is much more agricultural. The D4, which in most ways is just a tarted up D3, is so much nicer to drive.
Of course, the new V8 having almost twice the power of the old one helps!
King of the typo.
MY11 D4 5.0 V8, Bournville, lots of goodies!
Now departed: '85 RR Vogue, '94 D1, '95 D1, '70 SIIA, '97 D1, '04 D2a. All V8, except for the SIIA - but that drank as much petrol anyway!
