TV / Radio while parked - do multiple batteries help

The 10 minute shutdown on the TV/Radio while the engine is off is a pain (and also makes the TV in the front totally useless unless you leave the engine running). I was looking at multiple battery systems, however does anyone know if the 10 minute shutdown is based on time or battery voltage? If it's based on time, multiple batteries won't help.

Thanks,

Ian.

Yes it's time based and is a real PITA! Like you say, it renders the TV, the DVD and the rear entertainment pretty useless unless you leave the engine running, which is not always practical.

However, the system does drain a lot of power from the battery. I have watched the telly for an hour, switching it back in each time it's shut down, and eventually got the "Low Battery Please Start Engine" message, which is voltage related I believe.

It would be good if the system could be reconfigured to take into account of any extra batteries fitted, but Land Rover engineers always configure to the lowest common denominator, and don't cater for the more electronically knowledgable amongst us.

What a pain. I've started propping up my phone directly in front of the sat nav/tv screen and putting on iplayer. Seems a bit of a waste.

I guess driving the hifi amp guzzles electrical power but it is a shame that it can't use the battery voltage to determine when to shutdown rather than time.

Oh well, if it can't be fixed.

Cheers! Thumbs Up
