MOT rant.......
2009 MG TF just MOT'd and has the following advisory note;
Front brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (3.5.1i)
Front Brake pad(s) wearing thin (3.5.1g)
The front discs and pads were new around 13 months ago (probably for the, then, upcoming MOT?).
I've visually checked them when I first had the car (end of January 2017)as part of a general under-body check when I was changing the wheels over and I never spotted anything wrong or remotely of concern. It's done about 1000 miles since then.
I really can't imagine they are as worn as the advisory suggests and guess they'll sail through the next couple of MOT's fine.....

SWMBO had the same front discs advisory for 4 years in a row. Nothing wrong with them and she only does around 4k miles a yearIggy/Ieuan

Sound like the tester felt he (she? (PC)) needed to write something.Richard

Sometimes testers will add a couple of advisories so when the ministry checks their records it looks like they're doing something.De-Tango

I'm thinking that as same tester failed a car for me a few years back as the TomTom mount was 'slightly' in arc of wiper. I thought he came to tell me 'as a favour' but it was actually because he had failed it and was doing the 're-test' but wouldn't move it himself......
I've also had various cars receive advisory for 'weak' colour/faded indicator bulbs. These are clear lensed lamps with orange bulbs inside........ One car (Ford Mondeo) had them marked up every second year despite no bulb ever being changed.....
My favourite is advisory on 'engine covers' where they note something like "unable to check around engine" or such-like.
I'll still use them though as very convenient and drive in/out booking slot and only £23

I've had an MOT tester advise that the rear brake pads on my D3 were wearing thin, when they were greater than 7mm thick I've also had the faded orange light bulb advisory on my daughters car, but admittedly they were very pale, almost 'white', and I hadn't noticed I think you'll have to put up with the pettiness, as you say, convenient and cheap. D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. New A/C Condenser.NO WARRANTY for many many years.
Sometimes testers will add a couple of advisories so when the ministry checks their records it looks like they're doing something.
Yep, they will put advisories on just to keep the Inspectors away.
My previous Disco had an advisory for its offside rear tyre, close to legal limit, there was in excess of 5mm all the way across.
Next door had an advisory for his rear tyres, close to legal limit, that was over two years ago, still hasn’t changed them, it’s been through two more Tests since.

That's why I always go to the council depot for an MOT. The gent at Chelmsford wiped over five previous advisories off my sheet without me addressing any of the issues. Should point out that I agreed they were not real issues!
