D3 adaptive Bi xenon to D4 adaptive Bi xenon Headlights
I have a mint 2006 D3 HSE with low mileage and FSH. I was considering modernising and buying a D4, but then a friend mentioned simply face lifting my d3. To be honest cost wise its a no brainer and I will hopefully get to reap the benefits of the no expense spared maintenance of my vehicle.
My question is about the headlights. I currently have the adaptive bi xenons with cornering lamps which are in all fairness awesome. I would like to replace these with the same spec from the D4, but I have heard there can be issues with both the wiring and linbus/canbus (Adaptive ECU). Has anyone out there completed this upgrade/facelift and have the full instructions or any guidance.
Cheers

I can't remember reading about canbus issues, but the lights aren't a direct swap.
You need at least new front wings and grill as well.
The difficulty is that the D3 doesn't use a LIN bus to comunicate the adaptive functions. It may be possible to work a solution using the 05-09 RRS adaptive ECU, which does use LIN bus, but I don't know if anyone has successfully achieved it. The RRSport folk seem to report hit and miss compatibility when upgrading adaptives which suggests there may be differences in commands, yet for some, they do work perfectly well.
I'd save the money TBH - maybe buy a Beanie grille instead. Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

Since my posting I have done my research. You are right it seems possible to use a RRS Adaptive ECU. Just cannot seem to find any in depth instruction.
May have to just to purchase a D4. It is just a shame because of how much time, money and effort I have spent maintaining my D3 and its mint with less than 80 on the clock.

I'm struggling to understand why you "must" upgrade/spend a fortune on a D4 because you want a very slightly different style of headlamp.

Metal Monster Junk site sponsors will do this upgrade for you at a very reasonable price, ISTR around £3k including lights front and rear, grill and wings. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Any excuse to upgarde!
If it were me, the fact I have adaptive lights would be enough to stop me from doing the D4 facelift if I wanted to (which I don't anyway); I could easily disable the function myself etc., but I really do like them, not only as a novelty, but also as a genuinely useful function, so I would be loath to lose them. +1 I now have basic corner lights and think they are brilliant, but it depends what you do and where you go, some people will never have use for them, I do.
Strange thing is when I purchased my D3 11 years ago on Dec 4, I took it back after 4 weeks and complained that they didn't work, they kindly told me they didn't work because they where not fitted although they where listed in the brochure. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
The amazing thing is how one can get so used to the lights moving - if you then get into a car where they don't it seems kind of strange for a moment! I never thought they'd make a huge difference, but on all but the most major roads they really do help. I cannot offer a logical reason for doing this upgrade. . Since I have looked into the process I have got the bug and simply want to do it. I'm have an habit of being a tinkerer. Also, I am a bit of a Saddo about DRL's I just think they look awesome.
I have seen people upgrade from a 2004 to the 2015 style lights/front end, which is lovely!!! But this is mostly done by upgrading from the 2004 Halogen to the 2015 Halogen. I cannot seem to find anyone who has upgraded the bi-xenon headlight.
That's probably because no one can be bothered to do it for the sake of looks.
If some can offer me some guidance on my specific upgrade it will great. I reckon I can complete the front end facelift for approx £750. After selling the unused parts from my own vehicle. Which is not too bad at all.
You can still do the facelift with xenons, it's only keeping the adaptive bit that's a problem. Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

I don't suppose you have guidance on completing that particular facelift i.e Wiring diagrams.
You'd also have to remove the AFS ECU and disable the system with a suitable diagnostic tool.
