Sorry I didn't bring them back from Sortland. I stripped out at the eleckie stuff (fuses, relays, cables, etc) then later, without thinking, closed the lower tailgate to reach inside. Embarassed Embarassed I spent 30 mins at 11pm trying to get the tailgate lowered but failed miserably. Unfortunately I didn't have a crowbar with me. Sad

I know this is a few weeks old, but I would be careful if starting/ driving the car with no/ little aircon gas (R134a) as far as I'm aware the gas also contains lubricant which lubricates the pump.. I have seen pumps seize solid before due to no gas (on Scania's, not LR's) but I wouldn't take the risk.

certainly don't replace it, even if you don't so a bodge job with crimping and soldering it can be easily repaired, a lot of motor factors offer radiator repairs etc so I'm sure you could have it properly brazed or a vane replaced for not a lot of cash..

Oh and get yourself a sheet of steel to put behind when drilling Wink Whistle

,1,1,2-Tetrafluoroethane is a non-flammable gas used primarily as a "high-temperature" refrigerant for domestic refrigeration and automobile air conditioners. These devices began using 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane in the early 1990s as a replacement for the more environmentally harmful R-12 and retrofit kits are available to convert units that were originally R-12-equipped. Other uses include plastic foam blowing, as a cleaning solvent, a propellant for the delivery of pharmaceuticals (e.g. bronchodilators), wine cork removers, gas dusters, such as Dust-Off, and in air driers for removing the moisture from compressed air. 1,1,1,2-Tetrafluoroethane has also been used to cool computers in some overclocking attempts. It is the refrigerant used in plumbing pipe freeze kits. It is also commonly used as a propellant for airsoft airguns. The gas is often mixed with a silicon-based lubricant.

Switch off the "AUTO" A/C, without gas you can damage the compressor (compressor lubrificating oil is mixed with the gas)

Yes, I wrote switch off the A/C, but the car it self activates the compressor very often, so do not risk the integrity of your A/C compressor, repair the circuit and re-gas it asap.

Browny90,

you are correct, it's not sufficient to switch off the A/C as I wrote on my post, so your post was an "incentive" to correct mine.

A good team work!!! Mr. Green
