BT Broadband connection drops |
|
Single PC next to Hub6, worked fine and dandy till just after christmas.
When connected either with MS Explorer (BTW MS10 operating,pc is a HP 2 years old) or to Google Chrome connection will drop and auto reconnect whether using wifi/ethernet connections.
Openreach came out first thing having checked the line, checked socket (in fact fitted latest wall socket) etc, still doing it - sugestion might be the router. Down to PC world (BT will give me a new one if I sign up for 18months as I'm out of contract) bought and installed new Hub6.
Bloody continued....
Went on to HP, downloaded their hardware Diagnostics tools, all software inc Microsoft had always updated automatically including the one before christmas (suprise suprise) again kept dropping out as per normal.
Refitted my original Hub6, once again dropped signal etc.
Hours trolling the tinternet came up with a possible cause - TRUSTEE RAPPORT SOFTWARE FOR MY ONLINE BANKING...insisted upon by NATwest.
Uninstalled software...still an issue
So any suggestions as to where we go from here?

Are there other APs nearby using the same channel as your router? Download something like inssider or netstumbler and check what’s operating near you. There are two rules for success,
1. Never tell everything you know.

It is a ADSL connection? These connections are very sensitive to noise generated by faulty smps power suplies. Had this problem for half a year and a very clever maintenance guy with a small world receiver and a pickup coil discovered that the plasma screen was the culprit.........
My connection was dropping while my wife was watching television!

Hi
Assuming you have checked the router/firewall logs and seeen nothing I would be checking the following-
Is the connection stable from other devices on the network, and are you using dhcp from the router?
First thing to test is where the disconnection is happening - is it you being disconnected by the pc from the network, the network disconnecting you, or the ADSL disconnecting
If it’s a PC I would check for Malware on the machine and ensure you are using a known good network cable and turn off all WiFi from the router.
This will get you a stable connection to the router and allow you to test without other variables
Then set a ping test to the router running and run it for around 30 minutes, see if there are any dropped or slow connection issues
If the network is not unstable still leave everything else disconnected and move on to test the ADSL from the router - this can be done from most admin software inside the router.
PM me if you need help, how to find it Must stop buying shiny toys....
