Poking around this afternoon I came across this on my TDV6.

Can anyone put any light on what it is & if it should have something else attached to the open end?

Here is another picture showing it in the engine bay. (By the red arrow near the dipstick)

Ukraine 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 Base 7 Seat Auto Zambezi SilverDiscovery 3

It is an actuator for some sort of swirl vane that is only used on the Jaguar version of this engine I believe. So, no, nothing should be attached to it. Thumbs Up D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. New A/C Condenser.NO WARRANTY for many many years.

Good to know it's nothing to worry about although I was hoping it might have been the cause of my hissing sound.

Never mind, plenty of other things to be going on with. Just had the Egr's done. Now it's throwing a MAF error Banging Head

Ive just had the covers off mine and there is a set of butterflies attached to them and wondering the same thing. Smile

It shuts off 1 inlet valve per cylinder, for a smoother engine at low RPM.

Not used in LandRovers
