D3 fob battery change cock-up - what next? |
|
Both key fobs on the Mrs car are knackered so bought two new cases and two new rechargeable batteries. Did the first one and it works perfectly, but on the second one I had a 'mare getting the battery out and must have done something to the PCB because now the thing is dead. No idea what happened.
Anyway, it looks like I need a new key. I've seen some on eBay (I'm posted to the US at the mo) and they're about $17 for the 315 mhz variant. I have an IID tool. Does anyone have any experience of buying a blank with the electronics and then changing the blade and pairing using the tool?
Also grateful if anyone can tell me how I know whether I've got a HU101 or HU96 blade? Had no idea there was even a difference. My plan is to change over the blades anyway, so not sure if this really matters.
Grateful for any pointers. Thanks.

If its an English car I think you need the 433Mhz version. (should be printed on the side of old key)
Yes IID programs them

Hi,
Thanks both. It’s a US car, so it uses the 315mhz freq.
Sounds like you hav some experience, so can I just purchase a replacement key from eBay and then follow the iid pairing instructions? Is there any danger I could block my existing key in doing this? Fear is that I end up key-less. PAGODA

Sorry I'm not going to be very helpful here -
I was in the same position, bought a case and internals from Ebay, had a blade cut and fitted, pairing kept failing, but never blocked my original.
