IIRC ... there is stuff on the Which? site about how you tackle things like this .. an example I remember was someone who's fridge died at 7 years got info from a recycling company that said the average for fridges for that manufacturer was beyond 9 years and similar to other brands.
problem would be collating all the info from various car manufacturers.

No matter what you do, evidence, comparisons, warranty is it/isn't it, if LR just tell you to sling yer hook then how are peeps going to "persuade" them otherwise? Automotive Ombudsman, Small Claims Court, VOSA (or whatever they call themselves this week), any other options? Until they they start to be forced to rectify stuff or pay for its rectification then it's all going to be the unusual nonesense of "on a case by case basis" and "goodwill", i.e. a complete lottery.
