Scotland 2007 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Java BlackDiscovery 3

LRV DAV,

They are some very nice looking alloys, would look lovely on our Java Black Disco Laughing

Thinking about getting our current 18" alloys re-sprayed/coated black as well as getting the rear windows tinted.

Speak to Disc Mikey. These beaseties will bite you unless you know their history. Its too late now, but at least if you buy from the Forum you are buying a 'known' car. Cruise control might be your clock spring.Belt tensioner, belts and oil pump should be a priority.

Hi Moo,

I suppose if i look on the brighter side when i am finished i will have a really sound disco 3. Plan to keep a record on here of everything i do. So when i goto a disco 4 in a few years time everyone on here will know my disco is the best it can be. Once i have this list finis i will start on my modifications to get it ready for off road.

Its not my main work car so there is no pressure to keep it on the road. Going to take my time and do the best i can for the old girl. I have a mechanic friend who is willing to help me and allow me to use his premises.

To be honest kind of looking forward to getting my hands dirty. Keen to get all the nice bits done, fancy steering wheel, light guards, light bar etc but that will all have to wait so i can get the foundations sorted.

Hi Trailhound,

funny thing is i drove it up from Devon and never felt the gearbox judder the garage reported. drove it back to the house after collecting it so i knew about the shudder and i still don't notice it. What exactly am i listening or looking for?

I wish you well. As you say you'll at least have a car you know and sorted. I look forward to seeing the updates. Thumbs Up

First thing is to top that engine oil up to the correct level, and keep an eye on it. Shouldn't really be using/ losing much at all. Thumbs Up

Hi DN,

Already ahead of you. good thing is there are no drips on the ground. looks like the last owner just didn't bother checking or topping up.

Good Thumbs Up the first D3 TDV6 engine replacement I saw at a dealership in 2006, was because the owner just drove it without ever lifting the bonnet/ checking the oil level Shocked

Just wondering how long it had been run on low oil what damage has been done. Sounds like you was lucky to get it back in the first place after mammoth journey.

Did the right thing to cancel holiday even worse breaking down with kids and caravan.

Life is an adventure!

And there's no point taking it too seriously because none of us get out alive anyway!

Was it a private sale or a trader you bought it off?

As others have said you can do a lot of that yourself if you have the correct tools and time. My first thought would be to contact whoever you bought it off if it wasn't a private sale/
