| Strange Occurrence - Should I Be Worried |

Driving home from work yesterday I went round a 90 degree corner that can be taken at 30mph. As the steering wheel returned to straight ahead I thought I caught a flash of red from the instrument cluster (maybe in the area of the trailer indicator light). Not a problem in itself as my thought was a traction control light or some-such, the light was gone before I had a chance to fully register it. Then I notice the Average MPG reading had dropped from 32+ to 2.7! Now I'm concerned there may be a wiring or sensor fault somewhere.
Any one with a similar experience or thoughts as to the cause?
