I think it reduces the likelyhood of noticing brake lights or slows down the reaction times.
Absolutely no need for them to be on all the time.
And as you are traveling in the same direction its not a big deal
We don't require dip beam on 30mph roads since ~1993

Trust me, there are a lot of tunnels here! I see the logic and usually remember to turn my lights on about 10 minutes after I have started moving... which is breaking the law.
Pete was it you I messaged about the luck you had selling your plain arches/rear lights on anibis?

certainly with tunnels rear lights are good.
The auto lights respond quickly to them though.
I've never had any arches/rear lights forsale
