I got more interested once I figured out that the petrol engine, at least on paper, is more reliable than the diesel one. All smiles since.

Love my V8. So smooth. Coming up to its first year in my ownership .

Had mine three years now, head says there are probably more sensible options out there, heart says not on your nelly. Had the odd compressor niggle and electrical gremlin but apart from one coil the engine has been rock solid.==================================

I didnt think the D4 had been sold in the UK with the V8, only gulf states and the USA
V8 D4 also sold new down under in New Zealand, and I believe Australia.
And Japan, where mine came from, really cheap and easy to import down here. I got my MY11 5.0 V8, 40,000 kms (yep, that's all) for the equivalend of 28,000GBP.
If importing though, you would need to check insurance, tax, goverment saftey requirements etc. Heaps of the used cars in NZ are imported from Japan and Singapore, so it's really easy for us.King of the typo.
MY11 D4 5.0 V8, Bournville, lots of goodies!
Now departed: '85 RR Vogue, '94 D1, '95 D1, '70 SIIA, '97 D1, '04 D2a. All V8, except for the SIIA - but that drank as much petrol anyway!

I already have one sensible Volvo that my wife tends to drive with, no reason to be too sensible and get another ....
My only regret is I didn’t get a LR years ago

The kids like the V8 roar, one of them said it is like the lion king the V8 is really, really smooth. No need to drive pedal to the metal, just a slight nudge will make it move forward.

If you don't need the room in the boot may as well get the supercharged 4.2 RRS.
Same MPG.
Many more
Lots more available than a D3 V8

It’s the price one has to pay for not sounding like a tractor
Actually they meant the startup sound, windows closed (the default 9-10 months of the year) the engine is quite quiet.

Got my plan in place to take my tractor sounding D4 to your fantastic country end June 18. In at Tornio, over to Kuusamo, up to Lokka area then Inari. Looking forward to it already as Road Trip 17 was rudely interrupted.

The mosquitos will surely appreciate your presence at that time of the year. Bring plenty of DDT with you

Don't worry, the phrase "we're going chemical" is used frequently. And lots of RAID use for car & tent. When chemical fails, there is "we're going nuclear" but I haven't got to that point yet. A good smokey fire helps no end. Along with baseball cap on whenever out of the car, long sleeves with elastic cuffs and jeans tucked into socks.

That may be the direction we head in if only to stop friends and family taking advantage of me having a seven seater. ==================================
