When your wife is proven wrong
Driving home Friday evening having collected youngest daughter from Uni, my dearest OH was bemoaning the fact I hadn't let her put the tree up yet, daughter responded quite right it shouldn't go up until the end of next week. Strike one!
So having cooked dinner we settled down in front of the goggle box to watch some programme about sweet making in the past and lo and behold one of the presenters says "and traditionally the tree didn't go up until Christmas Eve. Strike two!
Saturday evening we take my mum out for dinner for birthday, and said she was talking to my one of my aunts the other day and my mum had said that she remembered their dad never put the tree up until after her's and her other sister's birthday, oh no said my Aunt, it was tradition nothing to do with the birthdays, it never went up until Christmas Eve! Strike three!
Husband 1 Wife 0, I think I am going to live to regret it though ==================================

Not today, nor tomorrow. Not even next week or next month, but some time, years in the future, you are going to be made to regret being correct about Christmas Eve.There are two rules for success,
1. Never tell everything you know.

Moggy, you clearly think you're living in pre-war Britain when times were hard, food rationing was about to start and nobody put their tree up till Christmas Eve.
As a modern man you should be embracing change and giving in to the demands of Christmas commercialism.
There is one simple rule that you're over looking, it isnt One life, Live It ( whatever the feck that's supposed to mean ) but it is simply, "Happy Wife, Happy Life".
That little saying has kept me down trodden, brow beaten and ridiculed for more years than I care to recall. Mods:

If you want to be pedantic about it you shouldn’t put a tree up as it wasn’t a British tradition anyway. Times change you should move with them DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

I was talking to the local Primary School Headmistress a couple of days ago. She has four children herself, all under 12.
Anyway, I asked her if she was organised for Christmas to which she asked me if I'd ever wrapped presents for four kids and then went onto say like last year, she wasn't celebrating it. Not one present, no Christmas lunch, nothing! bah humbug exists where you don't expect to see it, yet round school she's wearing tinsel and a red hat.

Thing is we have been married nearly 30 years and have never done it till Christmas week/eve, particularity when the girls were little, to see their faces when they came down Christmas morning to see the house all decorated, was a picture. so not sure why she wants to change now, kids are grownup and both are with me on the timing.

The tree is merely a variation of the pagan tradition of bringing in greenery (holly and ivy etc) to celebrate the winter solstice, ward off evil spirits and welcome the new growth the longer days will bring.

PS she is now playing Christmas songs on loop!==================================
