Is a hole in rubber strut protector Mot failure
Having just replaced a height sensor at the rear, I noticed midway through that the rubber surround on the bottom of the strut has a hole in. Is this a MOT failure?

You can get a repair kit for the rubber cover rather than replacing the whole shock unit.2006 TdV6 HSE.

My old D3 has either had rips in the rubber cover, or removed by me with a knife when it was really bed, never had any question at MOT time.

One of my rears has got a hole in it but only visible when in off road height and mine never goes off road so not too concerned and only do about 3000 miles a year.
Wil probably fit a new cover next summer.2006 TdV6 HSE.

Mine was shredded off-roading in the D3. Don't do that anymore so D4 is safe.

I'm presuming that unless there is some form of magic I don't yet know about, you have to undo the bottom bolt that holds the shock to the lower arm to replace the rubber sleeve?
I did mine off roading. A big old stick got flicked up by the front wheels and went upwards over the top of the rear lower arm taking out the hose bracket, height sensor and piercing the rubber 1995 Discovery 1 300TDI
