Looks like its goodbye to this forum for me.....

Sadly, I will not be spending much time checking out this forum in future. Nothing to do with the members or the standard of the forum - they are both great! Its due to some thieving b*****d stealing my beloved D4 from the driveway at around 3 am at the end of November.

It was parked up, locked and alarmed and the keys safely put away in the cupboard. Unbeknown to me, as the car had the 'keyless entry and start' system, the thieves must have used some sort of scanning/relay device to boost the signal from the key in the house (they didn't break in) to open the car and start it up. I thought I heard some noises outside, had a look and the car was gone. Reported to Police immediately who were hopeful of ANPR systems picking it up but I expect the thieves changed the number plates very soon after driving it away.

The car has not turned up and my insurers have settled but this doesn't make it any easier as there was no way I could replace the car, a 2012 MY HSE with just 35k on the clock, with something similar.

I have now bought a 2017 Discovery Sport HSE which, although a nice car, is not a patch on the D4. It is a lot more economical and the road tax is more palatable but......

For those of you with D4's (or any other car for that matter) with keyless entry/start systems, I have found that this works a treat to stop any signal from the key getting through to the car or any other gadget the thieves may have:

With the key inside and even held right next to the car you cannot unlock the doors. Well worth the few pounds if it prevents a theft similar to mine!

Anyway, good luck and a Happy New Year to all on the forum.

Very sorry to hear that, such a shame Sad

Unfortunately, the police’s over dependence on ANPR makes the thieve’s job so much easier.

Thanks Red Merle. I agree the police place too much on the likes of ANPR instead of having officers out on the roads like they used to. As for the ANPR, it is fine if the cars number plates have not been changed!

Incidentally, if anyone's bunch of keys is (like mine) far too large to fit in any Faraday bag, then this does the trick and can be hidden in plain sight in the kitchen:
