I would always drain used oil out rather than pump.

How much of this guide in the wiki is still relevant to the D4? Interested as, having been quoted £550 for the 128k mile Service B, I wanted to do it myself in the New Year.
What ever happened to:
1) Remove oil filler cap
2) Remove drain plug
3) Unscrew filter canister
4) Screw on new filter
5) Replace drain plug with new washer
6) Top up with new oil
7) Replace oil filler cap
???
Seems like the designers are doing all they can to make it impossible or difficult for the home mechanic so that stealerships get a bigger slice of service money rather than any attempt to improve the design and performance.Tony

I used both method (drain from sump and from the pump).
The pump method is good enough, I measured the quantity extracted and it's the same. The suction pipe is well designed.
Every time I extracted the oil from the sump, has always come out "just" oil, never strange things (agglomerates or particles).
I always check the oil fileter element opening it

And with oil extraction through pump, the work is easier, faster and cleaner.
So, normally I change the oil every 10.000km alternating the two methods....Discovery 5 tdv6 HSE Corris Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition

There's also the Pela PL-6000 but it's only 6l so, for the extra few quid, you may as well get the extra capacity for other jobs that may come up!Front Runner Rack, OEM Ladder & RAI, Tuff-Trek Foxwing, B'rakhah Ingonyama Expedition Trailer, RLD's Spare Wheel Protector, Bodsy's Bars, Empty Pockets!
