EPB screech - but only in low gear?
Hi All
A little advice please…
My EPB has started screeching when applied in low gear. It only does this in low, in high it works just fine. If the EPB is left to screech after a few seconds it goes into brake fault mode. I can get by with the foot brake in most circumstances but, since my D3 is manual, a hill start in low with no EPB is some what tricky – I don’t have three feet!
I’m completely baffled as to why this should be an issue in low gear but not high?
Before I take this into the garage has anyone any advice or quick fixes I could try?
The computer applies the park brake harder when in low range. If you can always remember to move to high before applying, it may live happily for a few more months.A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

As above. Strip, clean + adjust, before it kills the moduleMy D3 Build Thread

Thanks for the advice. I guess it sort of makes sense that the EPB should work harder when in a low gear.

I had the same EPB noise in Low Range and had it cleaned and adjusted to no avail as it started to bind on the RHS drum, so I had the mechanism replaced. It's very quiet now when applied both in Hi & Lo Range.

Thanks for the replies Bodsy; OldPOP; and Rand-lover. I had the parking brake serviced (unfortunately I do not have the time to do these jobs myself) back in Oct 16 and it has worked perfectly ever since.
