Replaced today under warranty. It took two attempts as the first time round LR said there was nothing wrong with it. I went armed with a picture from this thread and the TSB number second time round and they understood!

if out of warranty get new switch from ebay (i got mine for 100) and it is direct swap had to do nothing with iddtool and works since then like a charm

Having seen Wheeler Dealers, there's a place they used to fix the instrument pack on an Audi TT and also repaired an abs modulator, you could try them, they're called BBA Reman. I have absolutely no connection with them either.
Are you able to gain any further information on the LED driver chip from the engineer? I'm attempting to write up an instruction on how to repair and possibly improve the reliability of this circuit. I have located the chip and it clearly has overheated but so far I haven't been able to identify the brand or type of chip that it is, not sure it's a FET transistor or a dedicated LED driver chip.
