I'm thinking about getting a D4 HSE and have found myself looking at several MY15s. As I understand it, 15 plates have EU5 engines while 65 plates are EU6 (with a few exceptions). And as I understand this, the differences from EU5 to EU6 are the addition of Adblue and removal of rear air con. Plus, anecdotally, the EU6 engine has a bit more poke.
Is this understanding correct? Are there any other differences? I'm trying to work out exactly what I will/won't get with the two versions, and whether one or the other would suit me better. I'm not particularly concerned about the environmental 'benefits' of the EU6, though I guess it does offer a certain level of future proofing.
WRT the rear air con on EU5s, is this a standard feature on all HSEs, or will there some be models without it? Where are the vents positioned, and does their absence make a noticeable different in the back?
Does anyone have any experience of the two, or any opinions on whether one is better than the other?
Thank you for any advice.

I've owned MY14,15 & 2 X MY16.
I don't miss the rear A/C, I thought I might and was concerned about transporting dogs, but it's not been an issue at all. Although factory privacy glass must help. Others here will definitely disagree though It wasn't standard spec. on the MY14/15 HSE that's for sure.
There's nothing official to explain it, but I'm convinced that the MY16's that I've owned/own feel more powerful. My only logical explanation is the mapping is different.
The Adblue isn't an issue for me and with the rececent demonisation of diesel, I wouldn't now pay a lot of money for a diesel powered vehicle that wasn't EU6. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

The rear aircon was only on option on the Euro 5, so many won’t have it. The controls are in the centre of the roof and the vents are at the edges of the roof.
I’ve had 2 x Euro 6’s and didn’t miss it, while I now have it on the Full Fat, but don’t use it!
I’d pick the Euro 6 for the future proofing alone. 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4
2017 to date: FFRR SDV8
2023 to date: FL2 as a second car

2022 to date: Hinckley built ‘14 Triumph Trophy 1200 & sidecar!

Thanks both. My main concern was with carrying dogs, so good to know you've not had any problems LT. Seems EU6 would definitely be preferable then, especially if the rear air con was only an option as not having it is not necessarily a loss.

MY14 onwards has the cheaper tax.
I’m not so worried about Euro 6 as I don’t drive into cities.

Stop start is also on MY14 EU5 (hence the cheaper tax)

Fair point, however the future resale value of an EU6 D4 maybe higher. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Yeh, mine is an end of June 2015 (MY16) and is an EU6. So it seems like the late 15 plates may be EU6. I'd say this is a little bit of future proofing that might help.
One thing to look out for on the 15 plate EU6 D4 is that it gets topped up at the dealership. Mine's had two services and they've missed it both times. They're simply not expecting a 15 plate to have it. It lasts me between services without refilling by the way and I do about 10k mile p.a. and there is usually about 5k miles left in the tank according to the indicator.
There are blowers for the rear seats (second row) that can be opened to help with getting cool air into the back which is what I do for my dog. That seems to work OK.
Good luck Gary

Certainly for a year or two. Euro7 arrives 2020 so rumour has it. Our erstwhile mayor will have no hesitation in bunging Euro6 into the charging bands.

Thanks for the replies everyone. They've been very helpful. Seems the changes for EU6 don't come with the problems I thought they might.

Well not yet at least. Fingers crossed, but DEF has been around a long time on commercial and agricultural vehicles in the UK, not heard of any ongoing issues with it. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE
