Just came across this on the web. Anyone know them or have one? They seem to offer a lot of performance / economy for a very low price!

dont do it - most just overfuel the engine - if you want more "go", then get your motor remapped properly - look at the forum sponsors

Sadly there's no such thing as a free lunch. I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.
I have had BAS's magic box on my D3 - it was brilliant.
If I was going to tune my D4 I would go for BAS's offering:-

which is well thought of here.

Thanks both. I have no plans to re-map or anything else particularly. I just spotted it while looking at other disco 4 stuff.
However, back in 2003 ish, I bought and fitted a similar plug in device like this to my then one year old VW T4 camper. It made a massive improvement on that 88hp engine. Both performance and economy. I kept it fitted for all 15 years and 98k miles I owned the camper. It passed its mot's with it and didn't show any black smoke. So, although not apples for apples as these devices are more or less signal amplifiers. My one at least, did work.
Your'e right, there is no such thing as a free lunch. There is an overpriced lunch though. Remapping, is just software loaded via the OBD. Expensive in time and knowledge to create, but more or less zero cost to install! Thats probably why relatively few of us have it done. If we did, the cost might fall. Impressive gains, but more than BAS and Alive achieve with a ‘proper’ map...!?
I fitted a similar module to my previous car, a Q5, and it just didn’t feel right and just very boosty so I removed it after a couple of weeks.

I might have been very lucky? It also started in a very low state of tune for a 2.5, 5 cyl turbo diesel. D4 XS new November 2013, RLD Spare protector, Bodsy bars

Thats exactly what you are paying for. The time someone spent developing the map on a dyno, as well as the cost of said dyno/computers/licences
Anyone can stick a resistor in a box. It takes a person with a great understanding of engines + engine management systems to remap a car My D3 Build Thread
