I have no idea, but is the air intake pipe for the compressor. I think I read somewhere that it is higher up to prevent water getting sucked in.
As I say this is a wild guess, but I thought I read something about it somewhere.

not air suspension, the air inlet pipe is MDPE and profiled differently for Freelander 2 Diesel, Discovery 3 / RR Sport TDV6 & RR Sport TDV8, Defender (TD5 & Puma) - available Now!

Hmm, very interesting.
I had exactly the same thing fall out from behind my right rear mudflap when I was giving my D3 a thorough
washing (with tank water, for my fellow Melbournites) when I got my D3 back from the Kimbertey in August.
I just thought it was something to do with the mudflap.

There is a drain tube visible around the near side front wheel arch I seem to recall. Could be that. But I'm sure its a clear one not black.

Just got back from Bradford, and everything seems to be working fine. I don't think it came from my car I'll give it to dealer on Friday when she goes in for service. Silver TDV6 HSE
