| Bit of a rollercoaster this week.... |

Had a few ups and downs this week settling in with the D3. Boxing day morning I opened the tailgate, the gas strut mounting bolt fell off and the tailgate landed on my head. Then trying to lift it and tuck the strut back inside to close the tailgate I managed to slip, drop the tailgate again and the end of the strut took a chuck of paint off my rear panel!Not easy to do when your sat down!
Managed to calm down and took the Disco on its first proper off road outing following the Radnor and West hunt. Was really good over the hills (pics to follow) and showed another disco3 up when they failed to get up a bank, I then sailed straight by and made the top no problem. I was loving the Disco.
Second bit of offroading today getting clay traps and equipment into postion with a plant trailer. Getting down a steep grass lane went well, then it rained for a couple of hours. Had to abandon the trailer when we lost traction and came close to sliding sideways off the track down a very steep slope. Managed to get going using some old cardboard boxes under the rear wheels, a stroke of genius! Then got stuck again on a failry gentle slope without the trailer. Had to be pulled out with a tractor  Getting to the front towing eye is a pain in the arse! A TD5 defender managed to tow my trailer up the slope just to add insult to injury! Unfortunately there were a lot of people around who just loved critisisng my beloved disco, "all that money and crap off road" etc etc. Was getting really fed up of it all! Then one of them said the RAI was crap and looded like a jerrycan stuck to my wing! 
In the Discos defence it has got pirelli zero tyres (which I know from experience with them on previous vehicles) are utter crap, and have no "bite" on the shoulders to steer with. They are also only about 2-3000 miles off the legal limit at most.
Despite these hicups for some reason Im still love the disco,Its one of those vehicles that feels more like an old friend than just a heap of metal and plastic. Going to have to do a couple of mods though, I fancy a metal front guard with towing eye access, mantec perhaps???
Would be gratefull for comments on possible tyre choice to go on the 19" rims, any sugestions??

.. but I've just noticed you'd already seen this 
a mantec plate will leave the towing eye exposed and provide some under body protection

Yes how very embarrising! It was a sphincter twitching moment at one point, If I had slid off the track sideways (which would have happened if I kept the power on) there is no doubt the disco would have gone on her roof  My god did I get some  take!!
Come on then tyre reccomendations please..... ..... ..... ..... There doesnt seem to be much about in proper A/T for 19", not sure if I want to go all the way and have goodyear mtr.

I have the Good Year Wanglers on my D2, they are alright. If they wern't brand new I would trade for some General A/T's.
I don't know of any A/T's for the 19in rim. Maybe Nittro's? Trade someone for 18in rims, more tire options then.

I've had MT/R's on for the last 7000miles and used them in anger for their first 'proper' off road stint this weekend.
The ammount of grip on the mud & slopes is amazing
Had used std road tyres before & these just are the dogs danglies.
Slightly more road noise than the std road tyres, but at least I know I can go almost everywhere TDV6 HSE Black, Black Wheels /MTR's, Black RRS front/rear LR badge (tbf) Black Leather, Black Glass, Black TowB, Shiny Tasmods, Dull Mantec, White (& Orange) Reflective D3 Sticker, Black steering wheel badge, black air intake. Optima & Traxide dual battery setup.
Need black RRS wheel centre caps.
We D3, therefore we are..........

Sidney, I asked this kind of question some months back and was informed:
"Basically your options in the UK are....
17" D3 or RRS rims with 245/70 Cooper STs (All Terrain) or 245/70 Cooper STTs (Mud Terrain)
18" D3 or RRS rims with 255/60 General Grabber AT2s (All Terrain)
19" D3, RRS or FFRR rims with 255/55 Goodyear Wrangler MTRs (Mud Terrain)
There are others but the list above covers what is generally available over here and of sufficient load/speed rating (the 17" Coopers are slightly oversize but not enough to cause any issues) "

Excellent photo.
Just to fuel the window tinting debate, I certainly think that the tints on that grey D3 make it much improved over the tintless windows... IMO. DISCO3's Student Correspondent...
