Looking for some advice from the hive mind.. had a bit of an oil leak (which I’ve traced to the gearbox oil feed into the water radiator), but I needed to fix a few bits around the winch and thought why not strip the whole front down and give the intercooler a clean out etc. Well, I found a mishmash of metric and imperial bolts/nuts and quite a few missing which I can only put down to hunters who did the engine/turbo replacement a couple of years ago. The bolts are also all corroded to so nows the opportunity to put some quality ones in. Question - are stainless bolts strong enough in tension/shear for the bumper and winch and if so what grade should I be looking for ?
Picture for your general amusement
Cheers

No stainless won’t be strong enough. You need 10.8 grade bolts (stamped on the end of the bolts you’re taking off if they’re original)Bodsys Brake Bible
I think they should be either 8.8 or 10.9. There are several on the winch mount that are domed coach bolt types with square shoulders to locate in the cradle.
I cleaned the bolts up on mine and re-used them. The ones that attach it to the chassis legs are new though and they're M12 8.8 whereas the originals were M8.1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8
